WELLINGTON:

WELLINGTON HISTORICAL WALK:
7 km - A route running through Wellington to see beautiful historical buildings. Pamphlet with the history of each building available

 

BAIN’S KLOOF’ HISTORICAL PASS:
15 km - This pass from Wellington to Ceres was built by Sir Andrew Bain and his crew of prisoners, and was completed 150 years ago. The original pass is still in use with its hand-built meandering, narrow road through the mountain. On several bends the original stonework is still visibly intact. Historical points in the pass can be seen. Pamphlet available.

The "Vercelli Restaurant" on the Wellington side of the pass offers good meals and a relaxed garden view.

PAARL:

AFRIKAANS LANGUAGE MONUMENT:
17 km - A stone monument on Paarl Mountain in celebration of the Afrikaans language. A la Carte restaurant, Sunday buffet and picnic baskets with local wines. Enjoy a sweeping view over Table Mountain, lush valleys and vineyards and Paarl, forming the cradle of the Afrikaans language. The Afrikaans Language Museum in Paarl was built in 1860.

BUTTERFLY WORLD:
15 km - the largest butterfly sanctuary in Africa where tropical and other rare butterflies can be seen living and hatching. Walk in the tropical garden among the butterflies and sometimes have them sitting on you.

ANIMAL ZONE:
14 km - Several rare kinds of animals, birds and reptiles. Many animals can be visited and even touched in their living place. Ideal to take kids that they can learn to handle animals. Play park and small restaurant.

WINE VALLEY HORSE TRAILS:
2 km - Discover the natural beauty of the Paarl Winelands and explore miles of spectacular trails covering thousands of scenic acres. Well trained horses and an experienced guide will see you through a safe and enjoyable adventure. One or few hours trails, champagne breakfast trails, 3 day fynbos trails, etc.

KLEINPLASIE (“SMALL FARM”) OPEN AIR MUSEUM IN WORCESTER:
…Where history is kept alive. Here the lifestyle of the early Cape pioneer farmers is depicted. The following agricultural and home industries are presented alternatively by folks dressed as 200 years ago in barns and kitchens as those of the early pioneers: Tobacco rolling, candle making, soap making, blacksmith, bread baking in outside oven, donkey cart rides. Kleinplasie is reached by the historical Bain’s Kloof to Worcester, where it is situated 1 km outside the town. Return with the N1 over Du Toit’s Kloof, taking the old pass and viewing Paarl from the top. See the shiny rock that gave Paarl (“Pearl”) its name
